A division in sports is a group of teams who compete against each other to win the championship. There are 6 divisions in the National Basketball Association. Each conference is split into three divisions. In the east the three divisions are Atlantic, Central and Southeast. In the west there are Pacific, Northwest and Southwest.
The opposite of multiplication, if 3 groups of 4 make 12 in multiplication, 12 divided into 3 equal groups give 4 in each group in division.
There are 82 games in a regular season. A conference has 15 teams. Every team plays each opponent from the other conference, one home and one away game. All six divisions are with 5 teams each, which mean 30 teams total. Each team plays the opponent of the same division 4 times. The top 8 teams from each conference make it to the playoff.
Atlantic Division
The Atlantic Division consists of five teams, the Boston Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors. Created at the start of the 1970-71 season. The Celtics have won the most Atlantic division titles with twenty-four. The most recent division champion is also the Boston Celtics. They have won seventeen championships.
Central Division
The Central Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of NBA as well. This division consists of five teams, Chicago Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit Pistons, the Indiana Pacers and the Milwaukee Bucks. The division was created at the start of 1970-71 season. The Bucks have won the most Central Division title ( twelve ).The Pistons are in the second place with nine. The bulls won six championships and Pistons three.
Southeast Division
Southeast Division consists of five teams, the Atlanta Hawks, the Charlotte Hornets, the Miami Heat, the Orlando Magic and the Washington Wizards. Created at the start of 2004-05 season. The current division champions are the Miami Heat. They have won as well twelve Southeast Division title.
Pacific Division
The Pacific Division is one of the three divisions in the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association. The division consists of five teams, the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings. Created at the start of 1970-71 season. The Lakers have won the most Pacific Division titles. The most recent division champions are the Sacramento Kings.
Northwest Division
The Northwest Division in NBA consists of five teams, the Denver Nuggets, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Oklahoma city Thunder, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Utah Jazz. The northwest division is the most geographically expansive of the all six divisions. Created at the star of 2004-05 season. The most recent division champions are the Denver Nuggets with six division championship in the 2022-23 NBA season.
Southwest Division
Southwest Division consists of five teams as well, the Dallas Mavericks, the Houston Rockets, the Memphis Grizzlies, the New Orleans Pelicans and the San Antonio Spurs. Three of them, the Mavericks, Rockets and Spurs are based in Texas. The spurs have won the most Southwest Division titles. The most recent division champions are the Memphis Grizzlies.
